Schiaparelli kept up a family tradition as he lifted the 400,000 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg, Germany.

A full brother to 2000 race winner Samum and 2002 German Oaks winner Salve Regina, Schiaparelli made it a Classic hat-trick with success in the mile-and-a-half event.

The Peter Schiergen-trained colt was sent off as favourite and he kept on to hold the challenge of the fast-finishing Dickens by three-quarters of a length with Oriental Tiger in third.

British trainer Mark Prescott's Elusive Dream was on the mark in one of yesterday's supporting contests.

Ridden by Terry Hellier, the five-year-old ran out a comfortable winner of the Listed Air Berlin-Cup.

Hellier took the lead early in the straight and never had a problem in holding El Tango with Soterio five lengths behind in third.

Prescott said after the race: "I am very happy with that. He deserves to win a good race. We could now look towards the Ebor at York next month."
