Charles is forced out

Peter Charles is a definite non-starter for next month's World Cup show jumping finals.

Charles was forced to pull out of the Gothenburg finals as his top three horses are stranded in the Netherlands, after a total ban on the movement of livestock was imposed in the country, following confirmation of a foot-and-mouth outbreak.

Since competing horses must have been in a foot-and-mouth free country for 14 days prior to entry into Sweden, Charles, plus four Dutch riders and Sweden's Rolf-Goran Bengtsson all now miss the finals. Ireland at least has one representative in Jessica Kurten, who transported her horse, Paavo N, to Sweden on Wednesday.
