Galway midfielder Joe Bergin is back in training but will not be fit for Sunday's Connacht football semi-final with Roscommon at Hyde Park.

With Paul Clancy ruled out for a year, Galway have a dilemma in midfield. It was feared Bergin might be out for the season when he was injured in a club game a few weeks ago. "He is back doing some training and should be okay in a few weeks," said Galway manager Peter Ford.

Ford and his selectors will wait until after training on Friday evening before naming the side to play Roscommon.

Meanwhile, Key forwards Eugene Cloonan and Niall Healy are doubtful for Galway's All-Ireland hurling qualifier clash with Laois on Saturday.

Cloonan, poised for his first championship match for Galway in almost two years, is doubtful with a leg injury while Healy, scorer of three goals in Galway's All-Ireland semi-final win over Kilkenny last year, has a hamstring problem.

Galway's only other doubt is defender Ollie Canning who has been bothered by a back injury, but the Portumna clubman is expected to be fit.

Sligo corner forward David Kelly is a doubtful starter for their first-round qualifier against Down at Markievicz Park on Saturday because of Leaving Certificate examinations.

Defender Jonathan Davey and wing forward Brian Curran will miss the match as they are bound for the US. Full back Noel McGuire injured his hand in a club game but the Easkey player is expected to play. Wing forward Adrian Marren should also be fit to play. The team will be named tomorrow night.

Limerick captain TJ Ryan looks certain to miss Saturday's All-Ireland senior hurling qualifier against Clare in Ennis. The Garryspillane player went over on an ankle in training. The team is due to be selected this evening.
