Soccer/Longford Town 0 Cork City 1: A Denis Behan goal just before half time was enough to settle this game and move Cork back to the top of the table, for 24 hours at least.

Liam Kearney's free kick seconds before the break was turned in by Behan and Longford were condemmed to their second home defeat of the season and are still without a point on the board.

John Martin and Shane Barrett had chances for Longford, while Behan and Dan Murray both had attempts for City in a rather lifeless first half.

In the second half Longford's goalkeeper Stephen O'Brien was seldom troubled by the Cork attack, who seemed comfortable to sit back on their lead.

Shane Barrett and Dessie Baker both had chances in the second half to get Town's equaliser, but they rarely troubled Cork City keeper Michael Devine.

LONGFORD: O'Brien, Murphy, Dillon, Paisley, Ferguson, Kirby, Fitzgerald, Martin,Prunty, Baker, Barrett. Subs Myler for Prunty (73); Keegan for Kirby (82); O'Connor for Murphy (inj - 87).

CORK CITY: Devine, Murphy, Bennett, Murray, O'Callaghan, Woods, Doyle, Gamble, Behan, Horgan, Kearney.

Referee: H Whoriskey.
