The successor to Joe Kernan as Armagh football manager is expected to be confirmed in the next fortnight, the interviews having been recently completed.

Kernan's former number two Paul Grimley, now assisting Donal Keoghan at Cavan, is highly regarded in the county, as is the man who replaced him last year, John Rafferty.

Former Crossmaglen Rangers manager Michael McConville and Armagh under-21 manager Peter McDonnell were also interviewed.

The former joint-manager Brian McAlinden has also been linked with the post.

Kernan, meanwhile, has ruled himself out of contention for the vacant position as manager of Kildare's senior footballers. He is thought to have been sounded out by the county board.

The former Cork and Kildare footballer Larry Tompkins has also said he is not in the running, though he would talk to the board if they contacted him.

One man definitely interested in the job is Peter McConnon.

The former Kildare player led the county's under-21s to the Leinster title in 2004.
