ARGENTINA ended their Copa America quarter-final tie against Peru with just eight men as they were dumped out of the tournament. Two of their players were dismissed in a fight which began when Marcelo Gallardo, having converted a penalty for Argentina, rushed to fetch the ball from the net.
Peru goalkeeper Miguel Miranda got to the ball at the same time as Gallardo and the two began fighting for it, leading to a brawl involving most of the players on the field.
One Peruvian appeared to be punched in the face during the fight, which ended with Gallardo and Eduardo Berizzo being shown the red card. Gustavo Zapata was later sent off for a second bookable offence.
