All for one

One of the topics of conversation at Abbeyleix golf club since last September has concerned who was going to have the first hole-in-one at the new 18-hole layout. So much so that local member Liam Dunne sponsored a prize for just this achievement. And what a battle it was to claim the prize. At 9.30 on Sunday last Pam Westbrook aced the 121-yard par three third hole in the women's singles competition. Less that an hour later Dan Murphy, playing in the men's fourball, holed out his tee shot at the same hole. And, in a hat-trick for Abbeyleix members, Elle Robinson, playing in the Laois Shield, had aced the 11th at Portarlington the previous week.
