Sir, – Fr Joe McVeigh's complaint on receiving a "Welcome to Ireland" text when passing from Fermanagh to Monaghan perplexed me (Letters, July 31st). Why does Fr McVeigh not complain about the "Welcome to the United Kingdom" message when he returns? (Perhaps that letter was sent to a Belfast newspaper?) And does he expect to receive a welcome message when taking the ferry from Scotland to Belfast, and what would that message be? – Yours, etc,
