Sir, – Is there no end to the arrogance of those at the top in the banking community? Are they living on the same planet as the rest of us? If the Government wishes to retain any sense of credibility it must now take whatever steps are necessary to show the men who declined to act in the public interest that they do not own the organisations they head up.
They are civil servants whose positions and authority are bestowed by the Government acting in the interests of the Irish taxpayer who is paying their grossly inflated salaries.
The comment above is the mildest form of rebuke that came to my mind on reading the news this morning (“Major banks rebuff Government over mortgage rate cuts”, November 10th). Others, more appropriate in my mind, would have no chance of publication in this paper – at this present time. – Yours, etc,
