A chara, - With reference to the recent correspondence regarding the use of Irish in the Tour De France, the following is a brief summary of Bord na Gaeilge's involvement in Le Tour De France en Irlande:

Each local authority along the route was contacted regarding bilingual signage for the Tour before the Tour arrived in Ireland. Some 180 banners, each 2.7 metres long, were erected along the Tour route in Dublin City reading Geill Sli don Rothai, on Saturday July 11th and Sunday July 12th.

Bord na Gaeilge erected a banner outside its headquarters in Irish, English and French wishing the riders well as they cycled past. Bord na Gaeilge supplied translation facilities for the official Tour magazine. Bord na Gaeilge had an information stand for the international and national media for the duration of the Tour de France in Dublin Castle. - Le dea ghui, Meabh Ni Chathain,
