Sir, - I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary shown on RTE1 on June 29th about the life and works of Thomas MacGreevy - Rivers of Words. Eddie Holt's review (Weekend, July 3rd) did not do it justice.
Thomas MacGreevy was an interesting writer who was valued for his intellectual abilities as well as for his charisma by many more widely known writers who were proud to call him a friend. I had the privilege of being MacGreevy's secretary for a brief period during the early years of his very successful time as Director of the National Gallery. His absolute commitment to the gallery was evident even at that early stage and his courtesy and kindness to staff were much appreciated. Incidentally, it is difficult to understand Eddie Holt's preoccupation with Mac. It must be well known that Mc is merely an abbreviation of Mac in the writing of a name. - Yours, etc.,
