Sir, – “It’s called journalism”, John Waters concludes in his noble, reserved, just and objective estimation of the character of Senator Norris (Opinion Analysis, September 16th).

Then I turned to Doonesbury. Garry Trudeau has been giving us an alternative view of what journalism is these last few days as his Fox News hack does the reverse of Mr Waters and positively spins a damning account of Sarah Palin.

I may not agree with Mr Waters about Mr Norris’s character (or the nobility of the journalist’s vocation) but at least we agree the Senator should be on the ticket, in which case he will certainly have my vote. – Yours, etc,
