The ‘mainland’

Sir, – Your contributor Philip Pettit needs to brush up on his political geography.

In his letter of March 31st he refers to the part of Britain which is north of the Border.

I presume he is referring to Northern Ireland, which is not actually part of Britain.

Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom, however, contains both Great Britain and Northern Ireland. – Yours, etc,
