Sir, – The hysteria on various media outlets in relation to the jailing of Seán Quinn serves as a convenient distraction for the political class in this country. While the electorate get on the airwaves to blow off steam on treatment of a “decent man”, they should ask themselves why this country continues to elect politicians who fail to make any significant reforms to a system which allows the general public to pay for the mistakes of our so-called elite.
Seán Quinn has been made to relent to the judiciary – and rightly so – but we need to impress on our elected representatives that nobody should be immune to the impact they have on society regardless of any other legacies they may have. – Yours, etc,
