The GAA is a truly miraculous organisation, at once both an amateur sporting association dependent on volunteers to provide support, services and identity to Irish communities across the globe and simultaneously a commercial operation charged only with getting the best deal for its television rights.
Perhaps even more miraculous is the ease with which it seems to separate these two sides when convenient, such as when announcing Government funding for the refurbishment of one of its stadiums at one end of the week and negotiating an exclusive deal with Sky Broadcasting at the other.
