The Eighth Amendment

Sir, – Una Mullally ("Yet another election in which abortion is being deflected", Opinion & Analysis, February 15th) is frustrated that Irish society "deflects answers" on abortion? Maybe many people just (quietly) think it is wrong?

Of course, this frustratingly simple and obvious explanation is not one that your columnist wants to hear, especially considering the loud and slickly orchestrated pro-abortion media campaign to try and persuade people otherwise. – Yours, etc,

Dr THERESE BOYLE,

Sir, – Defending the Eighth Amendment is not against women’s reproductive rights; however, it is for protecting constitutional recognition of the most basic human right, the right to life, of all humanity.

If we wish to live in a progressive, equitable society, we must protect the right to life of all human beings, men and women, born and unborn, in our laws. To fail to do so is to learn nothing from history. – Yours, etc,
