Sir, - Stalin may have been an "outsider" but he was not a "Catholic Georgian" (An Irishman's Diary, May 22nd).
Josef Djugashlivi was born into the Russian Orthodox religion, went to an Orthodox school as a boy and till the age of 20, attended the Russian Orthodox seminary in Tiflis, Georgia. Mr Myers may have been confused by Stalin's figurative description of his education in the seminary as "Jesuitical", but (as many Jesuits may tell you) Jesuitical isn't always Catholic. - Yours, etc.,
