St Brigid’s bank holiday

Sir, – Hands up all those who want a bank holiday in dull, dark and miserable February. Or would you prefer a day off in warm sunny July, or even September when you can get out and enjoy the weather?

And why, now we are supposed to be becoming a multicultural society, do our leaders pick a date with Catholic overtones?

Can’t we just have a bank holiday without any religious dogma attached?
