A chara, - As one who has long been disgusted by the illiterate and disgraceful spelling of common words "as Gaeilge", I was not surprised at Mr M. D. Kennedy's letter re Iarnrod. It is a pity that more of us do not take a leaf out of his book. What are all the Irish language movements doing about such slip-shod degrading of our national language?

Here in Wexford we have the name of the town spelled incorrectly in Irish as "Loch Gorman" on the signs at the railway station. A few miles out of town we have a Heritage Park (well worth a visit) and sadly at least one of the signs pointing to it has the Irish word for "heritage" misspelled as "oihdreacht". Apparently, the "ah, sure, it's only Irish" mentality is widespread'
