School boards and parent reps

Sir, – I refer to Brian Mooney's advice column ("Ask Brian: How do I stop my child from being bullied?", October 27th).

A parent wrote in concerned about his child who was being bullied at school. Part of the advice was that he should talk to the parents’ representative on the school board.

Parents on school boards are not representatives of parents but instead are representative parents. I appreciate the difference is subtle but only one would entitle parents to have a say in the education and welfare of children at school.
