Sir, - I'm writing this as my bones and joints are slowly slotting back into place after yet another crush-fest known as a journey to work on the DART in rush-hour. Every morning it seems to get worse, as do the tempers of the passengers - those who have been lucky enough and strong enough to shove and jostle their way onto the train.
We are encouraged to take public transport to ease the traffic congestion in Dublin city. What about the congestion on public transport? I'm not asking for plush carriages with waitress service, merely somewhere to stand with something to hold onto, other than the arm or shoulder of another passenger.
Iarnrod Eireann experimented by removing some of the seating nearest to the doors to allow more space for passengers. Why not expand it to all DART services, particularly those at rush-hour? Of course, the obvious solution is to add more carriages but it appears the platforms aren't long enough. Could somebody, somewhere, in Iarnrod Eireann please start planning with their customers in mind? - Yours, etc., Conor Power,
Haddington Road, Dublin 4.
