DEBBIE GRIFFIN,
Sir, - I am writing to express my outrage at the lack of security and discipline on the railway system.
Last Saturday morning, I decided to go home to Waterford by rail. The train itself was full and many people were forced to stand or sit in the areas between the carriages.
One large group, who had obviously been drinking, became more and more vocal and made their physical presence very evident, shouting and calling to each other, using foul language, and refusing to move when people asked to get by.
I watched in amazement as they made regular trips to the drinks carriage, returning each time with an abundant supply of alcohol which only fuelled their bad behaviour.
I put it to Iarnród Éireann that if it must adapt a "free for all" policy concerning those who use its services, it should be prepared to accept the consequences and be ready to deal with matters such as this.
At the fairly steep rate of over €22 for a return ticket, is it too much to ask that I be allowed to travel in comfort and safety? - Is mise,
DEBBIE GRIFFIN, Dooneen, CoWaterford.
