Madam, – I agree with Ross Kelly (February 18th) regarding the renaming of Lansdowne Road.
As someone who went to school beside the old ground, played a few matches on the back pitches behind the old East Stand and attended rugby and football matches there over the years I will continue to call it Lansdowne Road, despite its new name.
It’s a great pity it wasn’t an indigenous Irish company which got to have its name on the new stadium. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – In view of the public’s negative reaction to this erroneous decision, the way to counter it is for every newspaper, every printed publication and every TV and radio programme in this country to vow as a matter of policy never to refer to the stadium by its new name. The power of the media would thus ensure the survival of the Lansdowne Road name. – Yours, etc,
