Policy on competition

Madam, - Increasingly, it seems, the Government with one hand giveth and with the other taketh away

Madam, - Increasingly, it seems, the Government with one hand giveth and with the other taketh away. Take the proposed break-up of Aer Rianta. We, the lowly electorate, are promised more competition between airlines and airports and ultimately lower fares.

Yet another Minister has decided that competition between public houses is bad for the voter. "Happy hours" and drink promotions will now be illegal. Publicans now have a Government mandate not to reduce their prices and to continue their reckless profiteering. Perhaps this is yet another matter for our European administrators to iron out. - Yours, etc.,
