Planting trees in front of buildings

Sir, – Overgrown trees are obliterating the views of some of Dublin’s best buildings. The blocked views include Trinity College approaching from Dame Street; the Four Courts from the south of the Liffey; City Hall from Parliament Street; and the Bank of Ireland from Dame Street.

Even the statues on College Green have not escaped the blight.

While we have millions of beautiful trees in our country, we only have a handful of such buildings. I don’t believe Dublin’s city planners ever intended trees to be planted in front of these splendid structures. – Yours, etc,

JOE RYAN,

Churchtown,
