Madam, - Having spent three hours in a pub last night without drinking alcohol (something I am not used to, as I enjoy a certain local brew) I hope Mr Martin does not waver from his plan to ban smoking in pubs next January. I woke up this morning feeling and sounding like I had a skinful last night and it really brought home the damage passive smoking does to people. I fully appreciate the pressure such a ban will put on publicans but surely people's health comes before economics. - Yours, etc.,
