Madam, – On a recent trip to Tel Aviv, I noticed the Aer Lingus check-in desk had placed the baggage tag on the front cover of my passport, covering the word Éire as well as the harp emblem.
On removing said tag, a dark sticky smudge remained.
While I endorse the recent harsh but necessary reality check provided by Aer Lingus management to the cosseted cabin crew, I despair at the lack of respect afforded to symbols of our nationality by the supposed national airline. Needless to say, during my time in Israel, I kept my passport close. – Yours, etc,
