Sir, - I was extremely interested in the letter from John Healy (May 24th) criticising the short time devoted by RTE to reporting business news. I would like to ask the producer of the daily news programmes why so little time is given to news for the deaf. In December 1995, it was announced that the news was to be fully subtitled, as it is already by the BBC and ITV. We are still waiting. At present, out of the 6 p.m. news, to which 55 minutes is already devoted - including business news, sport, etc and advertising - only a few moments is devoted to news for the deaf. The last time I made a note, it was 2 1/2 minutes in all. Not even this is available on the 9 p.m. news! Mr Healy has a genuine point and has my support, but what about deaf people? Yours, etc.,
