Naming the children’s hospital

A chara, – Noel Browne did not need a branding agency to name the Blanchardstown hospital in memory of James Connolly. The new children’s hospital should be named in memory of Dr Kathleen Lynn.

Dr Lynn, daughter of a Church of Ireland rector, chief medical officer of the Irish Citizen Army, political activist and TD, was the co-founder of the pioneering Teach Ultain. Teach Ultain did extraordinary work for the health of poor children of Dublin with minimal financial backing, and the veiled opposition of the Catholic archbishop of Dublin. Her memory has already been honoured by the UCD medical school. The branding exercise should be made redundant. – Is mise,
