Mrs Robinson And Abortion

Sir, - A few years ago I acted as President's chaplain to Mrs Mary Robinson at an evening prayer service. Our photograph was taken. Today I removed that framed photograph from my office and tore up the negative as an act of silent protest at the viewpoint expressed in her authorised biography, that abortion should be available "in limited circumstances" in Ireland. (The Irish Times, November 2nd).

Mrs Robinson's office at present is United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. What a contradiction in terms! Unborn children are human beings with the basic human right to life. They are human beings with potential; they are not potential human beings. The commissioner would deny them their human right to life "in limited circumstances". - Yours, etc., Dominic Johnson, OSB,
