Sir - Due to editing by The Irish Times of my letter published on May 11th, the wrong impression has inadvertently been created about the case of Mr Belmondo Wantete.

The facts are simply thus:

Mr Wantete's house was raided in May last year.

No charges arose from the reasons for the raid.

Instead, Mr Wantete was charged with assaulting Gardai in his house during the raid.

In later months the Gardai re-arrested and pressed charges on Mr Wantete relating to not carrying his ID. These were dismissed by the courts.

Later again Gardai raided his house with an arrest warrant that was not in his name. No charges arose.

On June 8th next, Mr Wantete will stand trial for the assault charges brought by the Gardai from the raid last June. - Yours, etc., Mark Cumming, PRO, Residents Against Racism, c/o Comhlamh,
