Sir, – Isn’t it extraordinary that while people are banned from carrying out traditional peat cutting, using methods that are comparatively kind to nature, scenery and archaeology, Bord na Móna continues to strip huge stretches of bog using machinery and methods which leave these areas lifeless and hideous. All this provides, in large part, only uncertain seasonal employment and not always for the domestic production of energy, but much of it to provide compost for foreign gardeners.
