Sir, In the photo of George Mitchell (June 11th) his eyes raised soulfully to heaven, and hands clasped, as if in prayer, he seems to be saying: Lord, grant me patience with that turbulent priest, and those warring Unionists - to which we could all answer piously: Lord hear us. Lord graciously hear us.

Levity aside, those supposed "peacemakers" should read John Waters's article on the same page. It might help them realise that by their petulant, childish and ludicrous behaviour, they could be dicing with death.

A pity there is not a bigger representation of the women's coalition. These would bring commonsense and sanity to the peace talks. - Yours, etc.,
