Madam, – Elaine Byrne (Opinion, March 2nd) highlights the costs, €12 billion to date, arising from the mantra of this Fianna Fáil-led Government, “You cannot let your banks fail”.
It does seem we need some Icelandic-style organisation, to hold this FF majority Government to account, for hapless economic management, and the largesse of bank guarantee schemes that include non-strategic banks such as the black hole that is Anglo.
What does it take to precipitate a general election in this country – a €12 billion loss (sorry, but banks can’t fail) or the announcement that we saved the banks, but not the economy? – Yours, etc,
