A chara, – We recently made the decision to pay the fee for the online copy of our Irish Times. Why? Because we rely on it to report the news; it relies on us to keep going.
Most people, I suspect, now read online, as opposed to buying the newspaper – getting a free paper rather than a “free press”.
But there’s a big difference between reporters being told to go on out, go find the news: or told, here’s the agenda, write according to it.
The alternative is scary – being nudged towards the agenda of the owners.
