IRISH CINEMA THEATRE

Sir, I very much enjoyed Michael Casey's article of April 17th, No Cinema Paradiso

Sir, I very much enjoyed Michael Casey's article of April 17th, No Cinema Paradiso. I thought, however, that he moved from Joyce's Volta cinema 1909 rather quickly to 1930, when there were 265 cinemas and halls in the country.

My grandfather, R. M. Graham, in addition to his dancing school, went to London in 1911, bought two projectors and opened two cinemas, one in Richmond's Hill, the other and more famous, the "Irish Cinema Theatre", in Capel Street. I'm grateful to the late Liam O'Leary, whose research, unearthed almost all that we know of Graham's adventures into early Irish cinema.

Bioscope, 3-10-1912

That progressive little house in Capel Street is owned and managed by Mr R. M. Graham. Some recent improvements have been made, noticeably the installing of a new Kamm projector, and the raising of the screen A picture depicting the adventures of the great Buffalo Bill was shown last week for the first time in Dublin." Yours in cinema, Millcourt Road, Glenageary, Co Dublin.
