Sir, - Judge Haugh's ruling on Charles Haughey is very disturbing indeed. Are we to take it that people who commit crimes and other offences contra res publica, which by definition and by right invite pubic ire and civic comment, are to walk free in future in this country? And that a future Hitler, Stalin or Pol Pot, to name only the most notorious, would be untried due to the adverse publicity attaching to their activities?
We need a serious rethink on this one by our judiciary - and fast. - Yours, etc.,
