Sir, – Is anybody accountable for the traffic shambles that was allowed to develop on the southern end of the M50 on the afternoon of October 23rd? What was apparently a five-car collision involving one minor injury was allowed to result in two- to four-hour delays for thousands of motorists and God alone knows how many missed flights, trains, appointments and the rest, all on a bank holiday weekend.
Why were these cars not moved aside immediately, allowing the traffic to flow?
Madness. Does anybody in authority give a damn?
