Sir, – Terence Killeen (Irishman’s Diary, August 14th) seems to think that because I am in my 80s and sometimes use a rollator to get about I am not “in a condition to travel abroad”. This is certainly ageist and implies furthermore that someone with only a mild impairment in walking is obviously precluded from travelling. I am happily quite capable of travelling abroad by air, sea and land and do so frequently. In fact I am off to Italy next week.
If the Samuel Beckett Summer School at Trinity had taken place elsewhere I would have been equally able and happy to attend. – Yours, etc,
