Sir, - Aer Lingus was recently advertising in the Personal Columns on your paper's back page, inviting people who are going to Crufts this year to travel from £119 return.
Apart from the fact that this is by no means the cheapest return airfare to Birmingham, don't even think of taking your dog along if you are an exhibitor. The ad doesn't state it, but if you ring the number advertised, you will be told that the BA 142s and 146s which Aer Lingus uses on the Birmingham route do not have pressurised holds; so, no dogs, please.
Really, Aer Lingus would be better off saying nothing rather than wasting money on such advertisements. Alternatively, the national carrier might actually consider competing with Ryanair during Crufts week by laying on a couple of 737s to attract the considerable number of Irish exhibitors who make the trip. -Yours, etc., Louis Hogan,
Corbawn Grove, Shankill, Dublin 18.
