Film festival redundancies

Sir, – Mick Hannigan and Una Feely have given most of a lifetime in the service of Irish cinema (Home News, March 28th). They transformed the Cork Film Festival into a festival that gained the respect of all serious (not solemn) film goers. Mick, among many other achievements, played a major part in the development of the Irish Film Institute, particularly in the opening of its cinema complex. He is a highly-respected figure in film circles, both at home and abroad. It defies credibility that these accomplished professionals can be so summarily sidelined. They deserve respect and support from all members of the film community rather than this unworthy decision on the part of the Cork Film Festival Board. – Yours, etc,
