Sir, - Whatever about the use of mobile phones by car drivers, the following are some of the things which I observed while out walking one day recently.

Three female car drivers combing their hair. Two male car drivers shaving. One male truck driver drinking from a plastic cup. Two female car drivers applying lipstick. Four male car drivers reading newspapers. One male car driver engaged in picking his nose. One female car driver who appeared to be consulting a map.

The Government should bin Mr Molloy's confusing, contradictory and ambiguous legislation and Commissioner Byrne should tell his gardaí to get on with enforcing our quite adequate laws on dangerous driving - something which up to now they have signally failed to do. - Yours, etc.,
