Deferral of church ceremonies

Sir, – Catholic primate Archbishop Eamon Martin characterisation of the manner in which the Government made a decision on church ceremonies ("Church anger over decision on ceremonies", July 2nd ) as being " grossly disrespectful" is over the top.

He overlooks the blindingly obvious reason why these events need to be pushed back – that they end up in a lot of cases as social events with all the accompanying consequences.
