Madam, - The report by your European Correspondent, Jamie Smyth, May) headed "Ireland criticised by human rights watchdog" (May 1st), says that "Europe's top human rights watchdog", the Council of Europe, has censured the Irish Government for failing to adequately protect children under State care. The council's report also criticises the Government for failing to legislate for abortion - in other words for the killing of babies in the womb.
What an excellent example of confused thinking. Ironically, your correspondent ends by telling us that the commissioners' report "carries moral authority". - Yours, etc,
