Madam, - I am not an apologist for the insurance companies, but the recent study which found a variation of up to 500 per cent in motor insurance premiums would seem to challenge the old chestnut that a cartel exists.
I note, however, the Tánaiste's call to motor insurers to reduce premiums.
I find an inexorable rise in most of my household expenses - ESB, Éircom, Bord Gais, NTL, TV licence, postal costs, motor tax, petrol, doctor's fees, even haircuts, etc.
My motor insurance premium is a notable exception - it has actually reduced. Can the Tánaiste do something to address the more pressing problem of rising costs in other sectors? - Yours, etc.,
