Sir, - For several years now, we have been asking, requesting and pleading our TDs to allow us the means to qualify for a contributory old age pension, but have been consistently refused.
Briefly, we were compelled to contribute to a Social Welfare Scheme for this pension, but were also disqualified because we were born before 1932. This discrimination of a particular age group and occupation is unjust and vindictive against a diminishing minority group. Public representatives, who espouse concern for the elderly and support these conditions for party political reasons, lack credibility for allowing this situation to continue for the remaining years of this group.
