Sir, – Your correspondent Ian Kavanagh (April 4th) asks why “in a multicultural, multi-religious 21st-century Ireland are the pubs closed on Good Friday?”. It doesn’t seem to have occurred to him that it is appropriate in a multicultural, multi-religious society, for pubs to be prevented from selling the drug that is alcohol on at least two out of the 365 days per year. – Yours, etc,
