Sir, - May I congratulate Wicklow County Council on their promotional pages in the Sunday Tribune of June 28th for sheer breath-taking double-speak? I quote: "Our mission is to maintain and improve the quality of life in Co Wicklow by providing cost-effective quality services and encouraging sustainable development within a local democratic framework".

Against the clearly stated objections of all their local Bray UDC Councillors and the entire population of the town and beyond, the Council saw fit last week to grant planning permission for houses at the side of Newcourt School on Bray Head. It would seem destruction of the green space is the order of the day. The gateway to the Garden of Ireland will soon be all concrete with no green to be seen.

Bray Head and its environs are beyond price and indeed Wicklow County Council has been marketing Bray and the whole county as one of the most beautiful areas in the country.
