Sir, - Why am I not surprised to read that 11 Bishops were unavailable for comment on Bishop Willie Walsh's recent positive remarks about the topic of women priests (The Irish Times, February 15th)?
It just proves that the fear of Rome among bishops and clergy in this country is now much worse than ever before.
Apparently, Willie Walsh is the only bishop, north or south, who is now willing to speak on topics which are off-limits to Rome.
Who would have thought in this new millennium, after the "openness" of Vatican II a few years ago, that we would now have a Church that's on its knees to Rome? - Yours, etc.,
