Madam, - My colleagues and I were delighted to read that Waterford has become a Fairtrade City (The Irish Times, October 14th) and we send the members of the action group our warmest congratulations. We hope to be able soon to welcome Cork, Kilkenny city and Kinsale to the same status.

However, we must draw your attention to the fact that Waterford is not the "first Irish city to be granted Fairtrade status". The (London based) Fairtrade Foundation granted Fairtrade City status to Belfast in June this year. This achievement which is a great compliment to those who made it possible: the citizens, the retail traders and the city council. - Yours, etc,
